Transformers: buying guide and questions

How to choose a transformer
Rating
Size the kVA from the total connected load, the diversity factor and future expansion; typical factory sizes are 250–2500 kVA.
Voltage
11 kV primary to 0.4 kV (415 V) secondary is standard in Bangladesh; 33 kV primaries for larger sites.
Type
Oil-immersed ONAN for outdoor sub-stations (lower cost, high overload capacity); cast resin dry-type for indoor and fire-sensitive locations.
Losses
Compare no-load and load losses: a low-loss transformer costs more but saves energy over its 25+ year life.
Tests and standards
IEC 60076 / BDS IEC; routine test reports, and type tests or BPDB/DESCO/DPDC approval where the utility requires it.
What is the price of a 500 kVA transformer in Bangladesh?

Transformer prices depend on rating, oil or dry type, winding material (copper or aluminium), losses and brand, and copper price changes. Send the kVA, voltage ratio, type and quantity and we quote within 24 hours.

Oil-immersed or dry-type transformer?

Oil-immersed transformers are cheaper and suit outdoor sub-stations; dry-type cast resin transformers need no oil, so they are preferred indoors and in buildings where fire safety matters.

Do you supply complete sub-stations?

Yes: HT switchgear, transformer, LT panel and power-factor improvement plant can be supplied together. Brands we list: ABB, Siemens, Energypac, ETL, Transtec, Hyundai, Schneider and Trafo.
