Ball valves: buying guide and questions

How to choose a ball valve
Body material
Carbon steel (A216 WCB, A105) for water, steam and oil; stainless steel CF8/CF8M (SS304/SS316) for chemicals, food and corrosive water; cast or ductile iron for low-pressure water; brass for small domestic sizes.
Pressure and temperature
Check the pressure class (ANSI 150/300/600 or PN16/PN25/PN40) and the seat: PTFE/RPTFE up to about 200 °C, PEEK or metal seats for higher temperature and steam.
End connection
Threaded (BSP/NPT) or socket weld up to 2"; flanged (ASME B16.5 or EN 1092) for larger sizes and process plants.
Bore
Full bore for pigging and minimum pressure drop; reduced bore is lighter and cheaper.
Operation
Lever for small sizes, gear operator for large ones, ISO 5211 mounting pad for automation with an electric or pneumatic actuator.
Certificates
Fire-safe (API 607), anti-static, blow-out-proof stem and test certificates (EN 10204 3.1) on request.
What is the price of a ball valve in Bangladesh?

It depends on size, body material, pressure class, end connection and brand: a 1" threaded brass valve and a 6" flanged SS316 valve are very different. Send us the size, material, pressure class, connection and quantity and we reply with a quotation within 24 hours.

What is the difference between 2-piece and 3-piece ball valves?

A 3-piece valve has a centre body bolted between two end caps, so it can be serviced without cutting the pipe. A 2-piece valve is more compact and lower in cost but has to be removed for repair.

Which ball valve is best for steam?

Use a carbon steel or stainless steel valve with a seat rated for the steam temperature (RPTFE for low-pressure steam, PEEK or metal-seated for higher temperatures), preferably 3-piece for maintenance.

Can these ball valves be automated?

Yes. Valves with an ISO 5211 direct mounting pad accept an electric or pneumatic actuator without a bracket. Argonmark also supplies electric actuators.

Which brands do you supply?

Our listings cover KITZ, Velan, AVK, Crane and Audco; other makes can be sourced on request.
